Inspiration

As much as I love writing, sometimes I just need to be inspired. Spending last week at Lake Powell with my wife and friends did that for me.

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Rainbow Bridge, the largest natural bridge in the world. There's something magical about the awe and grandeur of nature. Getting away, and especially to a place like this, rejuvenates me in a way that nothing else can. I felt twenty again (don't I look it?).

The creative juices are flowing again. What gets you going when you're fingers are plodding instead of flying across the keyboard?

I'd say you look twenty! Reading inspires me and, like you, getting away and exploring outside the confines of my regular world.

Considering I'm almost 40, I'll take it! I also read Hunger Games while at the Lake, which in and of itself is an inspiring read (from a writing stand point).

I love that place, since I live in UTAH going to places like that are easily in reach.

What inspires me to push on… when I think of anything else to do besides write is this, and it took a long time to program my brain this way.

When I don’t write I tell myself I’m letting down my friends, like I failed them, left the abandoned on the side of the road.

Now for me, I would never do this; I would go anywhere and do anything to help a good friend.

So, once I look at my chars as true friends instead of characters in my book—not writing about them leaves them stranded all alone.
That’s inspiration just to write, but not what I use to inspire story or events.

I listen to an audio book Stephen king’s “book on writing” which I have listen to at least twenty times. I think about my story and let my mind wonder, the voice drones on and my mind goes too far off place… I guess it’s like meditating; it’s how I send my mind to that place between conscious and sleep.

Every hurdle I have had from writing has been solved since I found this method of letting my creative mind free, I hope you find such a place.

Best of luck and I hope the stories come fast and vibrant.

You totally don't look like you're approaching 40, must be that fabulous mountain air and clean living!

I'm the same where some good quality time out in nature really refuels my creative well. Also, reading books full of imagination (like yours - loving it so far!).

Beautiful shot :) Nature clears my head, too. Don't get to spend a lot of time in the wild blue yonder with work and my little ones, BUT spent this weekend at Girl Scout Camp with my older daughter (her 1st time, she's 7). Even though we were busy, it was very relaxing. Just a whole different state of mind out there.

LOVED the entire Hunger Games trilogy; I devoured them all. Was thrilled to see Mockingjay in the hands of the middle school boy who lives next door today! :D

(Hunger Games #3 wasn't my favorite, but the series was good.) Glad you enjoyed your vacation!

Any weekend away is good for rejuvenating and getting back into writing mode. At least for me!

Love the ideas. I think the importatnt thing is that we each find our own thing and do it. Keep the creative juices flowing and type away. Best of luck.

That's so cool. Stuff like that always baffles me on how it's made. Well, I mean I kinda know how that happened. But things like stonehedge, pyramids, maybe even loch ness. They're all crazy awesome

Getting away is key. From my window I see islands where I've hiked; even that helps.

Sounds like a great window to sit behind--slightly jealous.
